Rupert Haigh -

English for lawyers

I specialise in the provision of document-editing services for legal professionals.

About Me

I was born in England in 1970 and hold an MA in English from Cambridge University, an LL.M. from Helsinki University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in European Union Law from King's College London. I qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1997. I am currently studying via distance learning for a Masters in European Union Law at King's College London.

After completing my legal training, I worked for several years as a practising solicitor in England, specialising mainly in litigation work, before moving to Finland in 2000. I have been continuously involved in editing legal text and training legal professionals both in Finland and globally since 2002, and have worked as a freelance lawyer-linguist for the Legislation Division of the European Central Bank since 2011. I am also the author of several leading textbooks on legal English, including the Oxford Handbook of Legal Correspondence (Oxford University Press, 2006) and Legal English (Routledge, 4th edition 2015).

I live in Espoo, Finland and am married with two currently medium-sized children. When not working, my hobbies include swimming, cookery and scriptwriting. My play 'Anger Management for Dogs' won the Pint-Sized Plays competition in 2009 and can be viewed on Youtube here: Anger Management for Dogs.
